How to Record / Watch Veetle Broadcasts in VLC

Here is a bit more detailed steps to explain how to view/record Veetle in VLC (Windows Version)

Tools Needed:

VLC Player >

TCPView or CurrPorts >

For this example i'll be using the Turtle Cam broadcast:

1. Install VLC if you don't have it. Unzip to a folder.

2. Open the stream you would like to watch in your browser like you would normally and leave it open while you do the rest of the steps.

3. Once the stream has started, run cports.exe from the folder you unzipped from.

4. cports will show you the tcp connections, scroll down till you see player.exe:

5. What were looking for is the last player.exe in the list and the remote port# thats in the red oval. So from this display we will be using port 56664

6. Now open VLC and goto Media > Open Network Stream

7. in the box where it says Please enter a network URL: your going to type in the following (for this example i'll be using the turtle cam broadcast) (Replace the colored text values with what you see in cports and what stream id you be using:

Stream ID will be shown in your browser address bar e.g.

the text in blue is the stream ID.

8. Once your done inputing the information Click on Play.

9. Now VLC should start playing the stream(Pic1), after anywhere from 10-60sec the stream in your browser will stop (LEAVE IT OPEN and don't reload, just leave it as is)(Pic2), after the browser's player stops, VLC will stop shortly after (15-30sec later) Just click on Play (Pic3) and your set! now you can watch/record the stream just don't close your browser with the Veetle window.

10. To Sum up:

Code:,Stream ID

Port# = Get it From cports.exe

Stream ID = from your browser address bar = Veetle's current server, it could change over time the easiest way to get the new server ip is just open a command prompt and ping the ip will display there.

To record the stream > VLC > Media > Convert / Save > Network Tab > Type in the url of the stream e.g.

and click on convert/save, choose your destination and profile settings and click on start.

And that all folks!

  3. Do you have any tips for keeping the audio/video in sync when transcoding to mp4? Thanks.

  5. hello , it works ,

what if the URL is :<32_UPPERCASE_CHARS>/true/16:9

what's your stream ID in this case ?

using the 32 Chars does not work :)

if anyone knows , please reply

  6. thats the widget code, you can't get the stream id from that. What you do is at the bottom of the player you will see beside the power button, click on that and it will take you to the broadcasters stream on veetle, and from there you can get the stream id.

  8. What should I choose in the destination box? I don't know know to save and retrieve my recorded shows.

  9. thanks alot, i'm having problems when recording,, it will not record sound, am i doing something wrong?

  10. thanks im having same troble to record the sound

  11. I can't get it to record! I can get the stream using Media>Open Network Stream>Play, but if I try to use Convert/Save or Stream, then press record button (and I did set the destination file) the stream stops just as it does in play mode, but the only way I can get it back is by hitting play again, which doesn't record! Also, if I'm watching straight from Veetle, stream is perfect, but in VLC, it's sometimes laggy, choppy, or audio dubbing is off. Any suggestions?

  12. Hi, I entered everything using the method of the example,4ecc1452195f4 but VLC gives me the error:
    Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL ',4ecc1452195f4'. Check the log for details.

  13. It stops after 5 seconds. What should i do?

  14. SAme. "Your input can't be opened"

  15. See this date of posting so you can see it's up-to-date because: It works!
Follow the steps carefully if it's doesn't works for ya.
The main thing is to DO NOT CLOSE your browser while you record the stream!

To this in addendum it also happens mostly wrong (i mean with that if vlc can't start to connect) when the stream is going "temporarily offline".
If this happens to often: Just deactivate HD streaming in your browser. (this is for people who've had install the veetle hd plugin)

Also in currports use always(!) the second "player.exe". (the other one is always present, because of its plugin I think. I dunno, but use the second player.exe. ^_^)
If you change your browser, stream, going refresh the player in browser and so on you have to hit F5 in "currports" to see the second player.exe again: Take this new/refreshed port then!
If you do all these steps: It works!!!

But I do not recommend to record streams with a laptop. The stream will stuck often and quality is very poor then.
It's your choice. Mine is it not. ;-) But I can say it works.
Just remember: After every(!) refresh of the stream, going temp. off, change the stream and and and...refresh currports with F5 to see the new and actual port. If you don't, it won't works!

Hopefully I could help a bit for people who got probs with that.
Maybe I also should say: It works in MPC, too! (k-lite)
Just open mcp player and hit STRG+O or "file => open file" and put in the uri like in vlc, click OK and wait for a few seconds, done!

  16. my problem is player.exe never shows up
